Sparkling Sciences Advances iPSC Exosome Platform
Secures INCI Name and Kyoto University-Related iPSC Patent License

October 1, 2026 — Sparkling Sciences, a subsidiary of TOMO YUME Group, today announced that it has obtained an International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (INCI) name for an ingredient based on exosomes derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and has signed a licensing agreement for Kyoto University-related iPSC patents. The milestones further advance the company's MSC-derived iPSC Exosome platform, built on exosomes from iPSCs reprogrammed from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), along with its ingredient standardization and international market expansion.

Sparkling Sciences has also completed development of a technology platform for Sakura Callus-Cell Extracellular Vesicles (Sakura Callus-Cell EVs), which uses Kanzan, a Japanese cherry blossom cultivar, as its botanical source. Sakura callus is induced through plant tissue culture and serves as the cell source for subsequent culture. The production process covers sterile cell suspension culture, cell expansion, and EV isolation and purification.

Rather than using large quantities of harvested plants as the starting material, Sakura Callus-Cell EVs are derived from cultured plant cells and produced through bioprocessing. This approach helps control raw material sourcing and manufacturing conditions, supports progress toward batch-to-batch consistency and scalable production, and reduces dependence on natural plant resources.

The licensed Kyoto University-related patents cover technology for generating iPSCs with non-oncogenic reprogramming factors. Whereas some conventional reprogramming methods may use factors that raise concerns about oncogenic risk, this technology focuses on reducing these safety concerns while working toward higher reprogramming efficiency and iPSC quality. It provides the foundation for the continued development of Sparkling Sciences' MSC-derived iPSC Exosome platform and related applications.

TOMO YUME Group now has capabilities spanning cell culture, exosome isolation and purification, quality management, lyophilization, and scale-up. With an INCI name secured for its iPSC exosome ingredient and the Sakura Callus-Cell EV process in place, the Group is further integrating plant cell-derived EV and animal cell-derived exosome technologies as it moves toward a broader multi-source exosome/EV platform.

Dr. Fang-Chen Kao, CEO of Sparkling Sciences, said: "Progress in exosome and EV technologies depends on more than obtaining vesicles from diverse sources. Building processes that are stable, reproducible, controllable, and scalable is equally essential for industrial application. Going forward, we will continue to integrate different biological sources, process development, and quality management to advance these technologies and their applications."

Looking ahead, TOMO YUME Group's new laboratory facility in New Taipei City is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, and planning is underway for a biotech manufacturing center in Taichung, Taiwan. The Group will build out its process facilities in phases in line with its technology development and production needs. Cell culture laboratories and production areas across its sites will be planned with reference to relevant PIC/S GMP requirements to support R&D, process development, quality management, and large-scale manufacturing.
